Legendary boxing champion Muhammad Ali's fight shorts from the iconic "Thrilla in Manila" bout against Joe Frazier have hit the auction block, and the opening bids are already staggering.

These signed, white trunks with black trim, worn by Ali during one of boxing's greatest matches, are estimated to sell for a staggering $4 million to $6 million at Sotheby's auction house.

A Piece of Boxing History

The "Thrilla in Manila," the final fight in the epic Ali-Frazier trilogy, took place on October 1, 1975, in the Philippines. Ali famously described it as "the closest he had come to death." A brutal battle that tested both fighters' limits, it remains etched in boxing history.

After 14 grueling rounds, Frazier's trainer made the heart-wrenching decision to withdraw his fighter before the final round, awarding Ali the victory.

These shorts transcend mere fight gear. They symbolize Ali's unwavering self-confidence, evident in his choice of white, a color traditionally associated with triumph. Sotheby's describes them as Ali's "calling card," a testament to his relentless belief and determination.

Bidding Heats Up

The auction for Muhammad Ali's worn shorts, which began on March 27th, concludes on April 12th. While bids have already reached a jaw-dropping $3.8 million, the reserve price hasn't been met, suggesting the final sale price could soar even higher.

Ali's Legacy Lives On

In addition to the auction news, Muhammad Ali will be posthumously inducted into the 2024 WWE Hall of Fame Class. The ceremony will take place during WrestleMania 40 weekend in Philadelphia, honoring Ali's contributions to sports entertainment, including his unforgettable role as a special guest referee at the first WrestleMania's main event.
